Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is a Hachimangu shrine located in Yukinoshita, Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture. It is also known as Kamakura Hachimangu Shrine. It was founded in the late 11th century as the guardian deity of the Minamoto clan. Thereafter, it became the guardian deity of the Kamakura samurai. In modern times, among all Hachimangu shrines in Japan, it is well-known in the Kanto region as a shrine associated with Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first shogun of the Kamakura shogunate. The shrine grounds are designated as a national historic site. Its former shrine rank was Kokuhei Chusha (national shrine of the second rank) and it was a special shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines, but it is in the process of withdrawing from the Association of Shinto Shrines in 2024 (see below).
