About Keta Taisha Shrine
Ketataisha Shrine is the Ichinomiya (first-ranked shrine) of Noto Province, located in Hakui City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It is an ancient shrine with a history of over 2,000 years, said to have been founded during the reign of Emperor Kogen, the 8th emperor. The main deity is Ōnamuchi-no-Mikoto (Ōkuninushi-no-Kami), and it is nationally known as a god of matchmaking.
The shrine grounds boast an area of approximately 30,000 tsubo (about 100,000 square meters), surrounded by a primeval forest of approximately 33,000 tsubo (about 100,000 square meters) known as the “Forbidden Forest.” This forest has been considered sacred ground since ancient times, and general entry is prohibited, making it a precious sanctuary where untouched nature remains.

Main Hall (Important Cultural Property)
The current main hall was rebuilt during the Tenshō era (1573-1592) and is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. It is a magnificent shrine building with a hipped roof, and is highly valued as a representative example of Noto shrine architecture.
Worship Hall and Shrine Gate
After passing through the vermilion shrine gate, the worship hall appears directly ahead. Here, worship should be performed using the two bows, two claps, and one bow ritual. In front of the main shrine building is the “Kirei Musubi-dokoro” (a place for dedicating votive tablets for matchmaking), where you can offer prayers for finding love.
The Forbidden Forest
The “Forbidden Forest,” located deep within the shrine grounds, is a primeval forest spanning approximately 33,000 tsubo (about 100,000 square meters), and has been off-limits to anyone other than Shinto priests since ancient times. It is densely covered with evergreen broad-leaved trees such as Machilus thunbergii and Castanopsis sieboldii, creating a mystical atmosphere. It can be viewed from a distance near the entrance to the forest.
